The nonpartisan, nonaffiliated economists who make up
The Squam Lake Working Group on Financial Regulation have put together a series of excellent short papers offering guidance on the reform of financial regulation. On the important issue of ending government bailouts of financial firms believed to be "too big to fail," see the October 2009 paper as well as the two April 2009 papers. Gene Fama and Ken French have sharp, direct, and very brief comments on "too big to fail" at the Fama/French Forum. (October 2009)

Update of above:
The Squam Lake Group has published its papers as the The Squam Lake Report: Fixing the Financial System. (July 2010)

A special issue of the
University of Chicago GSB Magazine devoted to David Booth, founder and CEO of Dimensional, in honor of his historic gift to the University and the naming of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Interesting throughout, but see especially "The Science" beginning on page 18 for a discussion of Dimensional's approach to investing and its roots in research done at the Unversity of Chicago. (Winter 2009)

A recent New York Times article,
"Can You Beat the Market?", on Ken French's work on the cost of active investing. (March 9, 2008)

Michael Lewis, author of "Liar's Poker" and "Moneyball," on the
evolution of an investor from wirehouse stockbroker to investment advisor persuaded of the virtues of Dimensional's approach to passive investing.  Quite a story and well told. (Portfolio.com, December 2007)

A Los Angeles Times article,
"Dimensional's 'Passive' Course Pays Off", on the occasion of Rex Sinquefeld's retirement as co-chairman of Dimensional. (December 30, 2005)

A New York Times article,
"Reading the Index to Beat the Index", on Dimensional's approach to passive investing. (January 11, 2004)
